An Orca Story:  Predation and One Killer Whale’s Family by Dena Matkin is a book for older children as well as adults.  It is a story about a transient orca that I have known and followed for almost thirty years and emphasizes the importance of protecting all predators and their habitat.  Each page is illustrated with color photographs I have taken in the course of my research on transient killer whales and their marine mammal prey.

Alaskan Love Stories:  A Researcher’s Life by Dena Matkin is about my coming to Alaska in the mid-1970s, raising my daughter Eve and following the killer whales in southeastern Alaska.  Besides stories of adventure and learning, it contains some of Eve’s writing as a child, teenager and young adult.  It is illustrated with several color photographs and my drawings of birds and marine mammals I have studied.
